Making Progress on Our DEI Goals
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are central to Coupa. We’re at our best when we share diverse experiences and perspectives, when we engage with empathy and a desire to learn, and when we reflect the communities and companies we serve.
We’re making progress toward our goals, but know we have more to do to move from good to great.
Here's what to watch for in 2022 and how to stay ahead of tomorrow's challenges.
Coupa’s Workforce Statistics
Today, we’re sharing our latest workforce numbers and reinforcing our commitment to improvement. Our percentage of under-represented minorities (URMs) increased by 2.5% from 2020 to 2021, rising to 11.5% of our U.S. workforce. We focus on U.S. numbers for this statistic because of privacy laws in non-U.S. countries. Our global gender diversity also improved, rising to 31% female representation of our global workforce in 2021 – a 2% increase from 2020.
Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our 2021 hiring numbers. We’re a high-growth company. As such, we’re constantly hiring – and hiring with intention – because we know that’s how we build a more diverse employee community. In 2021 in the U.S., URM hiring increased 6.3% from 2020, and we’re working to build on that progress as we go forward.
In 2022, We’re Doing Even More
We’re accelerating progress with new DEI initiatives. Expanding our URM employee community starts with more diverse candidate pipelines, with a special focus on roles where the representation is often weakest. We’re strengthening partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the U.S. and organizations such as Black Tech Pipeline and Professional Diversity Network. We’re also moving forward with a company-wide DEI strategy to focus our teams globally on doing more and doing better to build a more inclusive workforce.
Coupa’s being the change we want to see. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion aren’t ideas limited to women or people of color. There are several important groups that also need to be supported and encouraged, including our LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and veterans and their families. We have ongoing engagement across our company on how we continue to improve our cultural and community initiatives. Our commitment to diversity will always be welcoming.
DEI strengthens our identity and innovation. We become more creative, more empathetic, and more productive. Equity is a powerful multiplier of business innovation and growth. And when our teams better reflect the communities and companies we serve, it makes Coupa a destination company, where people want to stay and grow and build together.
In line with our Coupa values, we’re striving for excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This summer, as we publish our next annual ESG Report, we’ll go into more depth not only with our DEI numbers, but all of our work around Coupa’s Environmental, Social, and Governance initiatives. We know we’re making progress and fully understand there’s more to do.
