Procure-to-Pay Analytics: Some Caution for Embedded BI
In reading Scott’s blog I couldn’t help but reflect on how we need to be careful not to drink too much of the Kool-Aid (hype) surrounding dedicated BI solutions. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the evangelical charge towards a dedicated organization wide BI platform, especially in light of all the exciting advances the technology has made recently. But as with just about anything

CIOs and Procurement Pros Partner on Cloud Services
That was the not-so-subtle pitch CEO Rob Bernshteyn at Coupa Software made to 800 attendees at the Coupa Inspire 2014 event this week in San Francisco. Coupa, a cloud services provider, offers a host of tools for analytics, reporting, inventory, budget, cloud contracts and supplier visibility aimed at procurement professionals.
"This is our platform," Bernshteyn shouted repeatedly, not some add-on of an on-premises legacy ERP system installed in a bygone era when CIOs in a fiefdom would dictate what software tools business people used.
Ironically, Bernshteyn's keynote was followed by a panel of four CIOs

Coupa Inspire ’14 Kicks Off With a Bang
As someone who has from the very beginning loved all things social media whether it be Internet radio and television, chat rooms and webinars or social networking forums, when I received the e-mail inviting me to tune into the Live Ustream broadcast of Coupa Inspire ’14 I was immediately interested.
Let’s face it, while face-to-face interaction will never go out of style, we live in a world in which connecting virtually is an essential means by which information and insights on industry trends can be readily

Coupa and Alibaba.com – Partnership Analysis, Implications, and User Recommendations
Earlier today, Coupa announced it was partnering with Alibaba.com, a company that was once really just a directory service for global suppliers. It has since become as diverse in its holdings (if not more so) than eBay. The purpose of the partnership seems straightforward, but Spend Matters has found that Alibaba

Coupa Links P2P and Supplier Search with Alibaba.com Partnership
In PRO research brief published earlier, I analyzed the implications of Coupa’s recently announced partnership with Alibaba.com, including what it could signal for Coupa’s strategy of working with potential other supplier directory and listing partners. While the marketing value of these relationships is usually strong, there’s actually quite a bit of work behind the scenes (e.g., mapping part numbers and taxonomies) to make them work in practice.
Here are the basics of the deal, according to Coupa’s press release
